Background:
Jano's life in Qohor had nothing of special other than the fact that he was the only son of the wealthy Turtott family not to follow his ancestor's trade, becoming a warrior instead of a mearchant. He was no mere foot soldier though, Jano was the captain of the Qohorik Division, there to serve those who didn't trust a foreign slave force protecting their city; under him served half a thousand of the best native fighters of Qohor. He had a wife, not from the wealthiest of families but dear to him like none other, and a daughter, "his sweet jewel" as he called her...
But it all changed when that fool Aurion came around, in the second day of the third moon of YYYY the young captain was approached by the self-styled Emperor. He summoned the Qohorik to fight under the banner of a New Valyria, they all refused especially Captain Turott; why would they throw themselves into Hell's mouth to reclaim a land condemned by God? Valyria meant as much for them as this madmen. Aurion was not happy with the answer, so he decided to make of Jano an example: after being lashed on public square like a slave, the young captain was forced to watch his family, the only ones he ever loved and cherished, being fed to that monstrous creature. At that very moment, as he saw his weeping child's charred corpse being swallowed whole, the old Jano Turott was dead and the Black Goat himself came to earth, more thirsty for blood than he had ever been on his Heavenly (or would they be hellish?) dominions.
Only then the men were convinced to go, unwillingly and fearful of Aurion's wrath. But not The Black Goat, Jano went gladly, for deep inside him he knew that during that journey he would have his sweet vengeance. Aurion's Legion was mighty, with men from every corner of Essos: some were believers, you could see on their faces, young fools, so green they might piss grass; but most had been forced into service, just like the Qohoriks. As the Black Goat arrived at camp and saw this pitiful situation he laughed, for he knew what was happening, Aurion had been blinded by dreams of glory and couldn't not see the Wyvern's nest he had stuck himself into.
They didn't take long to mutiny, it was well past midnight, there was not much to remember just men fighting men... Until the beast came. Most of the Qohoriks turned to ash that night, most of those who dreamed to return home to their wives and families. Although most scenes from that night are bleak for him, one image still burns clear against The Black Goat's lids every night as he lay himself to sleep: Amidst that Hell on earth, as he ran across the battlefield, crazy with bloodlust killing every men that dared to stand on his way, ready to deliver his vengeance with his dark steel Arakh... He saw, right before, his eyes Emperor's Bane flashing down against its own master, his last objective in life being taken from him.
Having lost his opportunity of vengeance, Jano fell back to his former self... He remembered with dread the attrocities promoted during the days after his wife's execution and promised himself he'd never fall to such standars again, that in honor of his family's memories he'd become a better men. And to change you can't stay in the same place, with the same people... So he, and the remnants of the Qohorik Division joined the recently formed Ashen Band. Jano did not, though, abandon his Qohorik customs and he daily makes his religious sacrifices and has pretty short temper, tending to loud explosions of anger in his native language. But in fact, he's as amiable and welcoming as an uncle.
