The scouts of the Ashen Band ride far ahead of the unit. They can just see the walls of the town in the distance.

Arghurys rode at the head of his scouts, Oracle in his left hand while he handled the reigns with his right. As he rode he was silent, savoring the time away from the noise and smell of the camp.

As Arghurys rode closer he heard horns blast from the distant walls ahead of him. The gates to the town slowly begin to close.

Ikora, who was already irritable just because, snarled when she heard the horn blasts. She looked over to the command and clutched the reins of her horse, awaiting what they should do next. Her experience in warfare was next to nil and was trying her best not to be a drag on the rest of the group. If this were night time however she would be more in her element. Since the gates were closing she figured they would probably not be able to make it in time, and even if they did they would be abandoning the rest of the company. She stifled her urge for flight and gritted her teeth and wiped her face. She was beginning to sweat and the coal she put around her eyes smeared a bit. "Fucking blasted horns are loud, fuck."

Hearing Ikora's outburst, Arghurys sighed "So much for escaping the noise of the camp" he muttered to himself before motioning for his unit to come over to where he had stopped. Once they were close enough, he said "One of you lot, I don't care who, get back to the others and let the captain know the city is possibly under attack, or may soon be attacked" As he began to look over the area, trying to see if there were any signs of what had got the city on alert, he said to the scouts "Now, can anyone see any sign of what frightened the city into closing the gates"

"Us," Ikora said, "We look pretty frightening..."
It was the obvious answer but that didn't stop Ikora from blurting it out. She didn't know much of the details surrounding their contract. Defend the city...that was about it. If the city was needing defenders then they were probably afraid of being attacked. Ikora had seen a number of sketchy characters in amongst their ranks during her time with them, and one look at some of the men would definitely put the fright into a normal person...Upon reflect she probably would frighten quite a few people, if not for how she looked but if she told them some stories of the things she had done and taken part in. She had not really talked about the children she let die, and the group she was with didn't talk about it much either. They were all committed and knew what had to be done.
She turned her head to watch one of the men volunteer and ride off back to the safer part of the army. The thought crossed her mind to volunteer but then she could be picked off on her way.

The two scouts could see no force greater then their own in the pass. The the old wall near the mouth of the pass blocked any line of sight into the plains.

Arghurys paused for a moment before saying "Possibly..." He thought for a few second, considering if their small group would be enough to make the whole city close up, and quickly realized he had no idea what would cause them to close the gates. "We should be sure of what has frightened them, so lets at least get to where we can see the plains before we decide what we do next" he then said before he began riding to a point from where he would be able to see the plains.

(Awareness 3) Arghurys kept riding forward. Before he could see anything beside the ruined wall he noticed the haze of a dust cloud. The kind horsemen kick up when they ride. He was too far to get a true sense of its size.
