Captain Faerun was known for two things, one was his genius on the battlefield. The other was his taciturn nature in every other aspect of his life. The man seemed to save every ounce of passion for war leaving very little for the rest of God life. So many were mildly surprised when he spoke. "We will not be here much longer. Luceon is closing a deal with some of the Volantine." His lip sneered very slightly at the word.

"Why him and not you, captain?" Saera asked, wondering that he trusted the captain of the Irregulars so much. "I am curious to learn what this deal will be."

"For the same reason I would use cavalry to dislodge archers from a hill top instead of pikemen" Faerun replied. He studied the woman commander closely after he had finished speaking. His studied gaze would have fit a smith studying hours hammer.

Saera met his gaze coolly. She was not afraid of the captain. "As you will. I will be glad to have something new to think about, and I know my men are growing restless."

"Sounds like this calls for a drink to me," Lewyn laughed. He obliged his own suggestion easily enough, as he was already drinking. "Who do these Volantenes want us to kill for them? And how much are they paying?" By his tone of voice, it was clear Lewyn found the second question the more important of the two.

Luceon answered, "The exact number has not been determined but we are well above what I expected to get. The Volantine's need every sword they can afford right now." He paused to wet his coarse throat. "Some plainsmen from the north east are attacking an ally of Volantis."

"I hear they're good riders, the plainsmen," Lewyn commented. "Breed good horses too. But savages. Won't be a match for my Long Lances. Hell, even Qaeyn's second-raters might be able to handle them." Lewyn grinned wolfishly at his fellow cavalry commander.

"Plainsmen from the east?" Qaeyn asked as he leaned forward in his seat, his attention gotten, "If it's the Dothraki we're facing, we're gonna need a lot of blades, and a lot of blades to replace those ones later." He commented grimly as he glared at lewyn, not amused by his quip.
"I'm gonna to go out on a limb and say you never faced one of their raiding bands before." He said, taking a guess by his attitude about them, "Trust me when I say it, you and your spears ain't gonna fair any better then me an me men. Not unless you plan on dragging a wall with ya to fight them."

"Does the prospect of facing them unman you so?" Lewyn smirked, taking another casual drink from the flagon he held. "You could at least pretend to have some backbone for the sake of your men."

Qaeyn looked at lewyn in the eyes, glaring before he smiled, leaning back in his seat. "You know, perhaps you are right. You should charge their line and show us what real cavalry can do..." He said as he reached for his own drink as well, "It'll be funny to see your head paraded by them when they're done. The shocked expression will be priceless."

"You know me, Qaeyn," Lewyn drawled, sarcasm thick as syrup. "Honorable as the old tales. Always happy to protect the helpless, such as yourself. But you can bet your last gold piece that if a charge into their line's what's needed, I sure as hell won't hesitate."

"Trust me when I'll say, I'll be right behind you." He said with an amused chuckle, pointing a thumb behind him, "Far, far, behind, looking to take down as many as I can while they're distracted by you." he said jokingly as he shock his head.
"I still want to fight them though." He said as he looked to the captain, "Kill as many as we can. All of them, if we can help it." he said, the joking tone in his voice growing a bit more serious at this last statement.

As Jano heard the word "Dothraki" he felt a shivers going up his spine. Before taking command, back in his early days in Qohor, Jano had once fought a Dothraki band... The scar in his chest, where the arrow had pierced him would never fade neither would the memories; it had been a pain like no other, but there was one thing he feared more than another one of those, a shot in the guts. But thankfully, he hoped that would never happen to him.

"I hear the Dothraki are a wild, undisciplined people. But we have trained men. We can beat them if we keep our calm," Saera said firmly. "Our infantry will need to form square with a shield wall to protect those on the outside and pikes to defend themselves. We need to make it difficult for them to cut us down."

"With Dothraki, it wont be that simple" Arghurys said, speaking up for the first time. "Though, I never expected to live nearly this long, so if I have to die as a fool, killed fighting Dothraki is as good a death as any" he continued, his tone somewhere between sarcastic and cynical.
