Personality:
Arghurys' time away from society had a noteworthy effect on him. He prefers to keep to himself when possible, and when he is social, he is visibly out of his element. Instead, Arghurys prefers the simplicity he can find while hunting or just spending any time away from crowds of people. While he lacks social finesse, he is aware of his lack of such, which further reinforces his preference to avoid social contact with others.
When asked about his past, or Oracle (His bow), Arghurys always seems to avoid the question, as if there is something to hide.
He also makes a point to keep his bow, Oracle, on him at all times, and can get hostile if anyone tries to make him put it down, or go anywhere without it.
Background:
Arghurys was born Thoros Glaeson, the son of Jelmio Glaeson, a minor Valyrian Noble in North Valyria. Jelmio Glaeson was never worthy of attention, and Thoros seemed likely to be little different, little more than supporters of a stronger house. The house in this case happened to be one house Azandy. Due to his fathers connection to house Azandy, Thoros grew up with Tyvaros Azandy, the heir to house Azandy, as a friend.
This friendship lasted until Thoros was 17, and came to blows with Tyvaros' younger brother, Baes. The conflict soon resulted in Thoros' friendship with Tyvaros disintegrating, as the two came to argue more and more. This conflict lasted 2 years, in which time the disagreement became outright rivalry and antagonism.
At the end of 2 years, when during a feast Thoros was abducted by the 2 Azandy boys and dragged to the house trophy room for a lesson on the 'Superiority of the Azandy bloodline'. Exactly what happened in the trophy room is uncertain, but it ended with a Blade in Tyvaros' throat, and Thoros fleeing, having stolen the Azandy Heirloom bow, Oracle.
Thoros' first thought was to flee to the streets and sell the bow for a significant sum, giving him the money he needed to get out of Valyria. Such an idea was Naive, and of course meant that after 2 weeks on the streets, he only just walked away with Oracle, and little else. It was at this point that he fled the city entirely, going north from Mantarys along the river. At this point he had no idea what he was doing, only that he had been on a couple of hunts in the past, and so thought he could maybe get by for a time, at least until he figured out what to do next. It was pure luck that he survived the first 3 months he was fending for himself, as Baes, now heir to house Azandy, was after his brothers killer, and more importantly, the bow, Oracle.
Over those 3 months, he was just able to survive, however Baes continued to hunt him, and to avoid him Thoros had to continue moving north, eventually being forced to cross the mountain range between north Valyria and the Dothraki sea. This took 2 months, and almost killed him, however Baes did not manage to follow him, and so he set off, intent on crossing the Dothraki sea to reach Sarnor.
If he reached Sarnor, he was using another name when he did, though he may have decided not to go there, and instead just continued his journey. For the years before he joined the Ashen band, Arghurys existed away from cities, towns and people in general, sometimes going for months at a time without ever coming near another human, and while his ability to survive and do well in the wild became truly noteworthy, spending months without any human contact left him lacking in social skills.
Arghurys was visiting Essaria when he heard of the fall of Valyria, and the attempt by Aurion to reclaim Valyria, and so decided to return to what was left, expecting that by now even if Baes found his tail, the man was no longer a powerful noble, and so would be on a similar level to Arghurys. So he travelled to where he heard Aurion had been, and a year and a half ago, joined the Ashen band. While he goes by a new name, he no longer fears Baes finding him, he now anticipates it, and the closure he hopes it will bring. While no ghost, Arghurys knows how to move relatively quietly, and his skills in tracking make him highly effective as a scout, in time earning him his position as commander of the Scouts.
Oracle:
Arghurys' bow Oracle was originally crafted by Jaes Azanty, an Archer of noteworthy skill in Valyria 4 generations back. The bow was originally crafted of a single piece of Dragonbone, without adornment or aesthetic features, however Arghurys had put some wraps for holding it, and a few adornments, so as to make it less obviously the Azanty family bow. The Bow was something of a family heirloom, passed to the eldest son of the Azanty bloodline on the day he came of age, when he was expected to kill a creature of note with it on a hunt before he was allowed to return to Mantarys, and it was considered a bad omen if he did not kill the greatest creature of the hunt.
Arghurys however, knows nothing of Oracle's history, or of the Azanty tradition. When he stole it he simply saw it as something to pawn off for money, a means to an end. When he was unable to sell it, he came to resent it, blaming his misfortune on the 'stupid old piece of junk', and seeing it as little more than a burden. When he began fleeing north from Mantarys, he soon began using it for hunting, thinking 'The stupid thing might as well delay the inevitable, if nothing else'. However, as the days passed by, he managed to scrounge his way through events, alive even if barely. As months past, and Arghurys began his journey to Sarnor, he came to treat the bow as not just a regular tool, but a prized possession, and almost as an inanimate companion, realizing it was crazy, but not concerned. Today Arghurys, while oblivious to Oracle's history, sees the bow as having it's own history.
