Background: Lysander was the second of the four sons of one of the greater notable citizens of Lys, Gaemar Rogare and his wife Sheira. Gaemar claimed descent from "an ancient and noble line from Valyria", although as to the truth of this claim, no one could ever ascertain, apart from the fact that by appearance the Rogares looked to be typically Valyrian. As they grew to manhood, Lysander's eldest brother Orello, three years his senior was his rival in everything including the affection of their father, their ability with a weapon, and even carnal pursuits.
When the Doom came, Dragonlords appeared in Lys, possibly having been forewarned or lucky enough to be away from the destruction. Lysander's father, perhaps possessed by delusions far beyond his station, plotted with other Lyseni citizens to seize and kill the dragonlords and seize their dragons for themselves. Lysander advised against such an action, fearing that the consequences of failure would be dire both for his family and the city. With the protection of his family in mind, Lysander sought to warn the Dragonlords. (to be continued)
